Our Research

Research is a crucial thematic area that helps us to identify gaps and inform interventions to promote gender equality in the digital world. In Northern Uganda, the Gender Tech Initiative can utilize research to ensure that women and girls are empowered to participate meaningfully in the digital economy.

By prioritizing research on the digital gender divide, the impact of digital skills training, and the use of technology to promote women human rights, the Gender Tech Initiative can make data-driven decisions that promote gender equality and bridge the digital divide in Northern Uganda.

  • The Gender Tech Initiative-Uganda intends to commission research on the digital gender divide to gain a deeper understanding of the gender-specific barriers that prevent women and girls in Northern Uganda from accessing digital opportunities
  • Conduct research focusing on school girls, women and women human rights defenders, and investigate the impact of digital skills training on their social, economic, and political participation. This research could help to justify the importance of investing in digital literacy programs for women and young girls in Northern Uganda.
  • Conduct research on the use of technology in promoting women's human rights in Northern Uganda. For example, research could be conducted on the use of social media as a tool for advocacy, the development of mobile technology applications to promote women's rights or the use of technology during times of conflict. The research could also inform interventions to mitigate the potential gender-based violence risks associated with the use of technology
